Baby Cakes would have been 2 mo's on Friday. She was a beautiful silver and white mosaic girl..and my first chin baby ever born here. She and mom were playful as usual last night (late) and this morning..but we just got home from eating lunch and I found her lying there like she was asleep only she wasn't. When I first saw her I knew she wasnt asleep. Her mom was snuggled up next to her like they always were..I think she was probably still waiting for her baby to wake up. Or maybe she knew? Last night they were both bouncing up a storm..and now mom is subdued. I don't understand why these things happen life's just not fair sometimes.

Amanda I am very saddened to hear this... Do you still have her? Can you take her to get a necroscopy? Healthy 2mo. old kits don't just up and die. It would be very wise to try and find out what caused her death.

I am sorry for your loss.
I would recommend a necropsy too.

I'm sooo sorry Amanda! It's even harder when they are around for a few months to let you get even more attached to them. Don't let it discourage you though! Let us know when you find out something. Keep your chin up! ~hugs~

Hopefully the lab results will come back quickly and I can get some closure. It is discouraging though..and shocking..you know I was prepared for birth complications..and that went off without a hitch...then I was prepared for problems in the first stages..but she was almost weaned..and doing so well. This I wasn't prepared for. Poor mom is starting to look around for her baby now I think..but she is eating ok so far.

I'm so sorry. I know how you feel. I had a freak accident happen one time to one of my 7 week old babies. It is so much worse when the babies are older and almost ready to go out on their own. The only thing I can think of besides something being internally wrong with the baby is maybe mom was bouncing around the cage and landed on it. This is so rare though especially with older babies but not unheard of. I hope you get answers to your questions. Take care.

I had them in a short cage so there was no way mom could jump on her..because when she was born (didnt now mom was preggo)..the were in a tall cage..and mom bounced off the walls ..so I was afraid she might jump on BC.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little one! It is so hard, especially when they are at that age. It is hard any time but especially so when they have been around long enough to become SO attached. Let us know what you find out and how mom is doing too.
Our thoughts are with you.

Well she will be sent off tomorrow. Monday I took her too late for them to mail that day..yesterday was a holiday (no mail)..today I called and the vet was getting ready to call me to see if I had wanted an in-house autopsy done prior to sending..( I had told the receptionist I just wanted full lab work done but I guess she forgot)...I told him no I just wanted her sent to the lab and for them to do whatever it takes to find out what caused her death. So..will know soon.
Waiting is hard not knowing if it's something she had..or genetic...and getting paranoid and thinking it was something in the food/hay whatever.
All the other chins are fine. Mom, too. Probably just can't figure out why I check on them 5 times a day now.

Amanda, you are keeping Baby Cakes frozen correct? Did you freeze immediately?
I'm sure you are, just making sure! LOL!
Again I am so sorry and I hope you get some answers. Even no answers are better than bad answers such as genetic (ie: heart murmur, or heart problems, etc.)
I have heard lots of chins have murmurs. Some worse than others, some that never bother them. That's all I can think of. Or maybe she got choked on something. I dunno, just let us know.

I've always been told by my vet never to freeze just keep in the refrig?!?!
Don't worry yourself sick that you did anything wrong or all the others are going to get sick. As Misty said, most of the time it's a heart condition or an accident and something totally out of your control! Let us know when you hear something!

If you freeze them, tissue damage is done so that some tests cannot be performed... I KNEW this when I worked at the vets..the other day when it happened and I first found her I stuck her in the freezer for maybe 5 mins..then remembered..I wasn't thinking great at thatmoment. I hope it's something totally out of my control..and can't foresee what it was as everyone else has always been fine, but Im a pessimist and always fear the worst.
Will let you know when the results come in.

Well I am glad you didn't take my advice then! LOL! I have never had to keep a body. So thats new to me... all I knew is it had to be preserved.
