Okay, Timmy is that LAST male I ever thought I'd have a problem with, but recently he has been attacking his girls visciously and I honestly think he would hurt them if I left them together. So for now he's living by himself.
I think his problem is that the girls are stinkers and don't want to be bred. He recently got kicked out of Roxy and Nougat's cage and I recently realized they are both preg. They just kept fighting (Timmy kept starting it- they didn't want to breed obviously cause they were already preg, but he did, so he lunged at them and was ripping their fur out and biting them), and it was kinda funny to see him attacking a huge 900g girl! LOL. Roxy is a weird girl tho- she is ALWAYS open so maybe he thought she was in heat? So anyway those girls kicked him out, and then the next day I paired Timmy with my PW/VC girl who is FINALLY ready to breed (I bought her especially for him 6 months back). Well they got along great for the first few days- didn't even need any introductions. Then I notice Timmy attacking her, even though she isn't in heat. He was chasing her around the cage and biting her whenever he could get ahold of her. He wasn't even necessarily trying to breed, but it all started because she turned around when he mounted her (even tho she isn't in heat).
Now Timmy has been my most prolific breeder so far, but he has NEVER been aggressive like this, and I only noticed this over the past few weeks.
Have any of you ever had a MALE attack the FEMALE like this before? I have heard of it happening the other way around (female attack male).. I DO NOT have the cage space to keep him separated from her for much longer. Any suggestions? I have tried the torture chamber and they are fine in there then as soon as they are put into any sort of cage together, a few hours later he's pulling her fur out again and trying to hurt her.
For a while I was thinking about maybe selling him, as he isn't 'top quality' and I've been culling alot of my herd lately, but he was my first chin and throws awsome kits, so I I'd rather find a solution to all this if possible! I have plans to have him in a trio or quad and he won't even cooperate in a PAIR so how am I gonna get him with two or three girls! LOL.
anyway, sorry to blabber. Any suggestions or advice would be welcome! I have never had this problem before!

Maybe he just needs time to cool off... Guess I could leave him by himself for a week or so, and then maybe he'll be over his lil problem. From the looks of it though, I think I better not try and permanently pair him with Angel. Maybe just keep them familiar with each other and let him in there when she is in heat... What a pain!!

When you say attacking... is he physically hurting her? I mean I have seen chins tear up a cage cause the male wants to breed and the female don't. Fur flying, nipping, Grabbing from the back and biting back of neck etc. But not to the point of ACTUALLY hurting the female.

Does the female have a box to hide in that he can't get to her but one side?

Thanks Toni:) I sure hope we can figure out what his problem is and fix it!

Misty,
So far he hasn't hurt anyone that I can see (I have always been there to quickly take him out), but he is being very aggressive and I do believe that if he were left in there, the two preg girls and Angel could very well have gotten hurt. I don't like to take risks, and normally I am not a very paranoid person, but the fighting was just getting more and more intense.
Angel is a high strung and very skittish girl- always has been. But she is not aggressive and I have gotten her in with several females before with no prob. She's 8 months old now. She can be food aggressive and will bark and sit IN the food dish so no one else gets any food when I first feed them. But when it comes to Timmy, she does the slightest little thing to tick him off and BOOM fur is flying and Timmy is lunging into her sides and trying to bite her. He actually IS attacking- this is not just little dominance issues.

Oh and yes there is a box in their cage that Angel hides in, but that doesn't stop Timmy. He comes flying into the box and attacks her.

He's been with alot of girls before and I used to be able to get him in with anyone without a prob and no intros even. And he'd get 'em preg every time, but was never like this before. Only since he's been housed with Roxy and Nougat. He beat them up, they kicked him out. Then the next night, I paired him with Angel and they got along great- for a few days.. Now he's beating her up too.

Well if thats the case you may want to sell him :( ... If you truely feel like he will hurt another chin that may be all you can do. No one unfortunately most of the time can explain why some chins just snap! Most of the time its due to breeding, being pregnant, or littering. So maybe he needs to go to a pet home if you can't trust him to play nice and can't pinpoint the reason behind the attacks.

I have one VERY bonded couple that every now and then the female will snap. She does this beginning stages of pregnancy, and SOMETIMES randomly. Not to the point of physically hurting the male though. But it DOES get very rough. If I feel it is going to far, sometimes I will seperate her a for a few days. Then put them back and everything is just peaches! I wouldn't still have her if she had more bad days than good though. She rarely does it just randomly, it's normally only when first pregnant. Then she don't do it mid/late pregnancy.

Yeah Misty, I keep thinking that.. He was my first chinny boy so it is so hard to think of selling him:(
I think I will give him a week or two to "cool off" and see if that helps. Maybe his frustration with this big 900 +/-g female (Roxy) not letting him breed just kept building up. I will keep everyone posted. I hope I won't have to sell him, but I also will not risk him hurting the girls and I don't feel right keeping him here in a breeding environment as a pet only.

I wish you luck Rachael. I have one male who has killed two chins(one being a female). Proper introduction, and they lived together for about 2 weeks prior to his attack. I have another male, had him for a year and was told by his breeder that he is so sweet. He sure is - to me not to the females. I have given him 6 months rest from females in hopes of his attitude changing, and it has not. He will get along with them for a few days after being introduced. Then when I am not looking he will attack them. He has never killed anyone however, but he pulls their fur out.
The one male who killed two chins, is in a separate room from my other chins now, and is with only 1 female who he has NEVER attacked from day one. He has been with her for about 7 months now and so I think he will always be paired with her, as I could not chance him being with any other females again. The other male has been on his own. I don't dare attempt to breed him, because although he has not killed anyone yet..I don't want to give him a chance to. He has been introduced to MANY females now, some the most passive females possible, and some that are more agressive. I have tried everything with him, and don't plan to try again. I wish I knew of an explanation for why they do that, but I don't. :(

Alright, I had Timmy separated for a few days. Then yesterday I put him with Angel again and they seemed very happy to see each other. They groomed each other for a LONG time, then they snuggled together for the rest of the day. They never snuggled the first time I put them together. So I left them overnight. In the morning they were still snuggling and there was no fur anywhere. They are still getting along great. So I guess Timmy just needed a break. I will keep a close eye on them of course, but he seems to be his normal self again. Roxy was a very grumpy girl and would beat him up when he tried to breed. She is preg but is always open so I guess he got frustrated.

Well, just thought I'd update everyone..
I have had NO probs with this pair since I put them back together.. No fighting, no nothing. They snuggle together all the time and act just fine. She was in heat yesterday too so I am crossing my fingers :crossed f

Just hoping she won't have like 5 for her first litter! lol. (she's from a litter of 5 and mom and sisters produce 4 and 5 kits at a time regularly).
I will try to get some pics of them someday soon..

Thanks Misty:) I guess if they start fighting again in the next month or so, I'll knwo she's preg. LOL. He ALWAYS gets kicked out when his girls get preg.

I have a male very much like Timmy. He's a very aggressive breeder and I really only have one female who can put up with him. He's usually very sweet but he even tries to attack ME when his girlfriend is in heat. I keep a dust bath house in the cage (without dust of course) and she hides in there when she's sick of him because he can't get in there with her. A couple of times during breeding when he's just a little TOO aggressive, I've taken him out for the night and put him back with her the next day and then they are fine. So in my case, giving him some time away from her has worked.
Hope all continues to go well! :)
