"I wanted to give everyone a quick update - the pigs are now adoptable! The woman has relinquished them. They are also OUT of Hollister Animal Control, and staying at Peninsula Humane Society in San Mateo, until they find their forever homes! That is a great breakthrough, due to the heat wave hitting us the past week or so - it's been 107 degrees in Hollister - pigs can get heat stroke at 85 degrees. The only problem with this arrangement is that while PHS has lent us the space, they have not taken responsibility of the animals. Therefore, we as volunteers are working there as much as possible to feed, water and clean these pigs. This can't go on for an extended period of time, though - it's far too much.
Cavy trains will be going out to take pigs to various location throughout the country VERY SOON! They will be going as far as the East Coast, taking pigs to new homes. If you can take in some cavies, they will be forever grateful. There are lots of beautiful pigs in this bunch - gorgeous long-haired and short-haired breeds, all different colors - anything you could possibly want and they all deserve a chance at a new life!
Please visit http://cavyspirit.com/hollister.htm for more information on how you can help. This rescue is very draining - physically, mentally, emotionally and monetarily - any help you can offer would be so appreciated, both by the volunteers as well as the cavies.
Again, even if you live far from the Bay Area, we can more than likely head some pigs your way. Please open your homes and hearts to some VERY needy and deserving guinea pigs!
Thanks again! "
