I don't know how many listen to country music but did you hear what the Chicks did? They are over in England on tour and I guess they told the crowd they are embarrassed that the President is from Texas. All the radio stations in the Dallas/Ft Worth area are banning their music on the radio all week-end. They are doing some kind of poll of the public to see if they will play their music again or not. Wow, poor choice of words on their part!

well, i am sure i will be the odd man out here... but i applaud them for having the nerve to speak what they feel. Thank god for freedom of speech.
I also agree with them kind of. I am just over all saddened that this man is our president.

I just can't believe the local radio stations are refusing to play their music all week-end. Wonder if it's just a Texas thing or all over? I'm sure it won't impact them personally too much. Everyone is entitled their opinion but guess since they are in the spotlight they are being punished for their opinions!

prolly so Melinda. I am sure they don't mind though... they are pretty open on standing up for what they believe in.
And nope... it is pretty much nationwide i think. Stations here won't play their music either. I'll just play my cd.
(Don't forget the guy in NY that got arrested cause of his Tshirt... talk about punished)

Well redneck or not, I totally support our president and I feel he's done a great job so far. Better than ole' Clinton. Funny thing was I couldn't stand Bush Sr.!!!
I understand the freedom of speach thing, but there will always be repocussions to words and actions. IMO it's pretty distasteful to publically admit to the shame of our US leader. But on the same note, they have the right to speak freely if they choose.
I love the Dixie Chicks, but I think that was in poor taste to say they are ashamed to admit they are from Texas. So if that means their rebuttle is to have their music banned by texas or any other radio stations, so be it.
Like Chrisanne, I can play the CD if need be.

LMAO!! Well Dixie chicks little comment backfired maybe more than they thought it would. First off Natalie made a public apology saying it was very disrespectful... DUH!! but the damage is done and 60% of people surveyed said they would not buy another Dixie Chick CD. 37% said they still would, and 3% were undecided.
Can we say... OPPS!
I think it's funny.

I would still buy thier cd's. The comment was only made by Natalie... not really fair to hurt them all for one's opinion.
I would not ever apolgize for speaking my opinion. I think she is kind of a hypocrite to say she feels this way then turn around and cower when the heat is on.

Thats just stupid! I'll still buy CDs and even call the station and request their music!
If the manager of my walmart said he hated bush, would the whole walmart shut down.... HIGHLY doubtful!

Well I will say as a supporter of Bush that it kinda makes me sad Natalie would say that.
But I also wouldn't boycott their cd. Not fair to the other two like you said. And yes now that the heat is on she cowers. But IMO she shouldn't have said it in the first place, and you make your bed you lie in it. If you can dish it out, have the balls to take the heat from it.

I agree... dish it out, be prepared to take it. There are tons of celebs talkin worse trash than that out there... but they aren't running and hiding. I think what made her statement the worst is WHERE she choose to say it at. IMO
I can honestly say ... I don't support the president and won't. I did not vote for him, and won't when its election time again. That is just me. However, there is a respectful way to say things, and a not so respectful way to say things.

Well I am with Misty, I am a huge Bush supported and hated the weasle of a president we had before him (tho I would NEVER say that in public in a forein country). I didn't like him, but supported him all the same. I am proud Bush is from Texas and so is he. He has never left his home state and been ashamed of where he came from. He is also one of the few presidents in years that has the guts to stand up and say we will not take your crap anymore!!! Horay for him.
I also can't believe Natalie opened her fat mouth, yet again. Will that girl ever learn to keep it closed? I agree is has a right to say whatever she feels and that is great. But to go to another country while everyone is so anti-American and make a snide remark about our leader that WE elected is wrong and in poor taste. She has the right to speak her mind but does not have the right to say all texans are ashamed! She needs to speak for her self only and have her pass port taken away if she plans to voice more negative remarks to people that hate us. With power comes responsibility and she is a poor example of American's in the eyes of other countries. I loved their music, but glad she is no longer a roll model for my 9 year old daughter. I am ashamed of HER!

OMG, read this letter to Natalie Maines I got forwarded to me! All I can say is heck yeah! He let her have it and totally spoke the truth!
>>Letter from radio station website in Lubbock, home of the Dixie Chick that
>>spewed forth about our president:
>>
>>Name: LT Layne McDowell
>>Date: 03/15/03
>>Time: 01:54:49 PM
>>
>>Comment
>>An open letter to the Dixie Chicks:
>>
>>Earlier this week, while performing in London, you stated that you were
>>ashamed that our President is from your home state. I wonder if you realized
>>how many Americans would be listening. This American was listening. This
>>Texan is ashamed that you come from my state. I serve my country as an
>>officer in the United States Navy. Specifically, I fly F-14 Tomcats off
>>carriers around the world, executing the missions that preserve the very
>>freedom you claim to exercise. I have proudly fought for my country in the
>>skies over Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan without regret. Though I may disagree
>>wholeheartedly with your comments, I will defend to the death your right to
>>say them, in America. But for you to travel to a foreign land and publicly
>>criticize our Commander in Chief is cowardice behavior. Would you have so
>>willingly made those comments while performing for a patriotic, flag-waving
>>crowd of Texans in Lubbock. I would imagine not.
>>
>>How dare you pocket profits off songs about soldiers, their deaths and
>>patriotism while criticizing their Commander in Chief abroad, even while they
>>prepare to give their lives to ensure your own freedom of
>>speech.
>>
>>Please ask yourself, what have you done to deserve that sacrifice? Do not
>>try to justify your comments by claiming that you made them only because you
>>care about innocent lives. Never once in our history have we committed troops
>>to war for the purpose of taking innocent lives. We do it to protect innocent
>>lives, even yours. If the world leaders of the late 1930's had the vision and
>>courage of our present Commander in Chief, perhaps the evil men who caused
>>the death of millions in WWII would have never had the opportunity to harm a
>>soul. The potential loss of millions of lives in the future at the hands of
>>today's evil men necessitate action. In a separate correspondence, I am
>>returning to you each and every Dixie Chicks CD and cassette that I have ever
>>purchased.
>>
>>Never again will I allow my funds to support your behavior. All you have done
>>is to add your name to a growing list of American "Celebrities" who have
>>failed to realize that they have obtained their successes on the backs of the
>>American blue-collar workers such as our servicemen and women.
>>To Natalie Maines: This Texan...this American will continue to risk his life
>>to guarantee your freedoms. What will you do to deserve it?

IMO today it seems like alot of people dont really appreciate what we have. sure its okay to have the freedom of speach, but when you say stuff like that, its just wrong. i may not have supported bush to begin with, but this war has made me think. i would much rather have bush then any other world leader out there. we are americans. we are free. we do not live in fear of our lives and the lives of others.women are not afriad to walk on the streets and in cities alone. we do not have to wear special clothing for fear of being stoned, beaten, raped, and tourtured. we are equals with all of our fellow americans, regardless of race, religion, sex or opinion. citizens opinions are respected and acknowledged.this is why i choose to respect the decisions of our country, instead of critisize. i will voice things that i do not agree with, but no matter what, i will stand behind america, and whatever president i have, and whatever congress i have, so long as i and my family and friends may be free from harm hate and persicusion against our freedom.
this is why the dixie chicks make me so mad. had they lived in most other countrys, they would never be what they are today. women are not respected, or even acknowledged in most countries. they would never have been who they are, had they been born in iraq or packastan or places like that.......when was the last time you heard of a female celebrity from iraq?
the thing is, no place is perfect, but as far as america is concernd, were pretty darn close, and Im pround to be an American!

FREEDOM OF SPEECH......... That's really what the debate is about........ We live in the U.S.A..........

Freedom of speech only seems to apply if you agree with the majority.
Of course... it totally escapes me why anyone would care what the Dixie Chicks have to say. :)
